RMF Day 3 - RMNP...Anyone Have An Elk Hair Caddis?

The Finale

If I had only known how beautiful the Rocky Mountain National Park was, I would have visited a long, long time ago!  Sunday was a real treat...Dustin and Stephanie finally had a day off where they could guide a few of us through the Park.  I was still carrying along CUA...but, he was starting to weigh me down a bit, if you know what I mean!  As we met the group at the Beaver Meadows parking lot, we proceeded to a few small streams in the morning and early afternoon.  Everyone was in their element, it seemed.  The air was cool and crisp...Fall was definitely in the air.  The trees had turned and it was the ultimate setting for a day of fishing.

Jen caught her first Cutthroat...

Sanders was releasing fish after fish...

Stephanie was scouting the waters for the next conquest...

Dustin was teasing a pool of fish with a dry dropper...

And I was enjoying the amazing landscapes throughout the RMNP...

And the many elk along the roadside...

And more beautiful creeks and mountains...

It wouldn't have been an RD adventure without a few tangles...

The group seemed to have a good time in the RMNP...

Sanders, Stephanie, and Dustin

Eventually, we split up.  Some went to the Big Thompson and Steph, Dustin and I went to Lily Lake to catch a few Greenback Cutthroats...

We had another hour or two of daylight as we approached the end of the Rocky Mtn. Frenzy...
Stephanie wanted to head back to the Big "T" to get me into fish before I went back home.
But, there was something else that was interested in my line...

Ok...buddy.  It's your river.  I'll get out, but I'm still fishing!!
Maybe I should try an Elk Hair Caddis!!!
Dustin tied my fly on as it was getting dark... : )
Somewhere Over The Rainbow...

A slurper was caught on top...

A perfect end to a rockin' Frenzy...

But, the Frenzy didn't end there...as we left in darkness, an hour later, we were within a mile of the house and two bucks darted in front of Dustin's car...he admitted that was his closest call to having one in the front seat!

Ahhh...the Frenzy.

Thanks to everyone who came out to participate this year...It was successful because you were there!!

  2. I'm glad *I* wasn't there in the end or that deer would have become one with the front end of the truck, just as happened to the real me in Montana this summer. Nice recount of what was clearly and great outing. Sorry to have weighed you down ;)

  4. Super cool photos! I'm glad you all had a good time! I was looking forward to photos of Howdy, but maybe next year I guess. :) Maybe I can have my photo made with Howdy!? Hey, in that one photo - is that a chain-link fence??? :0 ???

  5. Mel ~ Yes, this is why the Frenzy needed to take place in Colorado. Wouldn't mind living there someday...

Kirk & CUA ~ "You" only weighed me down when I started doubting myself...And it made a funny story, but I know who really is to blame... : )

Richard ~ We were also very fortunate to have perfect weather as the cold front came in the next week!

Owl ~ I have a few more pics of Howdy that I will send you via email. The chain link was supposed to keep out ELK??? Or neighborhood kids from the water...

  6. I'm jealous...RMNP is one of the prettiest places on earth and I missed it. Great photos and pardon me for stealing a little of your thunder. If I knew you were going to be posting this, I would have held off on the photos I stole and posted. I did enjoy meeting the few souls who stayed around the fly shop, so thanks for that.

  8. I just got caught up on this great trip. It made me realize how long it has been since I fished new folks (heck, with anybody for that matter). Clearly it was a hoot. Thx for the report and great pics.
