Ahhh...Home Sweet Home! Did you miss me??! Well, I found out that there are some really beautiful places almost as awesome as my living room view of the Wasatch Mountains...Yes, back from Idaho and a great adventure, it was. I can't go into details about it though...you will have to wait until RG puts up her post on it (update!! It's up) on the Outdooress page...so, be sure to check that out the next little while (NOW!). What I can tell you is that I stopped somewhere on my way home and it was an incredible sight...The Shoshone Falls out of Twin Falls, ID.
The falls are known as the Niagara Falls of the west and is one the most impressive views along the famous Snake River. With the waterfalls being nearly 1500 feet wide with water dropping a staggering 212 feet it is even a longer drop than the Niagara Falls which drops 176 feet. The Snake River Canyon is also the canyon that Evil Knievel tried to jump in 1974 with his Sky-Cycle. Since he couldn’t get permission to jump part of the Grand Canyon he bought land next to the Snake River and set the jump up at that location. The jump was totally unsuccessful but not fatal. His shoot opened right after take off, the wind caught it and slammed his bike to the ground next to the river, 600 feet below. Although it could have been tragic, Evil Knievel walked away with jut minor injuries. Just looking at the terrain...you can see that this would be a pretty crazy, ugh...insane stunt to try to pull off!!!
Well, back to work this week...got to get caught up and all of that good stuff...catch you on the flip side! And hopefully, I can post some more pictures of the trip very shortly...stay tuned.
Well, look who made it back. Fantastic pictures. Can't wait to read the stories.
ReplyDeleteahhhh My old kicking grounds. I used to live in Pocatello and Last chance Idaho. I used to go to twin falls all the time cause I had a girl fiend that lived there. The falls are amazing!
ReplyDeleteMark ~ Yes, and in one piece, I might add! A lot of ground to cover in a short amount of time = tired today!
ReplyDeleteDustin ~ If I ever lived in Last Chance or Island Park...you would never get me to move again...absolutely beautiful!! And the fishin' ain't bad either! :)
Welcome back and thanks for those award winning photos. Can't wait to see some more. Idaho is on top of my bucket list for this summer.
ReplyDeleteCofisher ~ I will follow you up!! haha
ReplyDeleteI knew it. I thought you'd be out visiting Rebecca. Great photos. I didn't see anything about you catching a Steelhead. You get one?
ReplyDeleteMark
No. Didn't miss you at all. You're back already? Hmm. The time just flew by. Didn't even know you were gone, really. So what did you do again? Fishing or something? Hmmm...from those pics looks like nothing but a sightseeing tour. I don't even think you can catch brown trout. That Owl guy seemed to be havin withdrawals though. He's weird.
ReplyDelete"Anonymous" ~ I'm sure you didn't miss me one little bit! Lol. My pics will be up tomorrow. It was a long trip home and kinda late after I unpacked. Patience!
ReplyDeleteglad yer back and thanks for the pictures, been a long time since I've been near Idaho, forgot how pretty it was.
ReplyDeleteAwesome pics. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteShoreman ~ Yes, this was my second visit to RG's stomping grounds. We have a great time harrassing trout! I'd rather not brag about my accomplishments, but will tell you that I still love my brown trout the best and always will!!
ReplyDeleteLuke ~ Glad you enjoyed the photos...those falls are awesome if you ever get a chance to stop.
last chance was o.k. to live in lol.. I was young and didn't have my priorities strait back then. I get to go back about every year and hang with my old friends. And yes the fishing is not bad either :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to have you back on the blogging scene. Thanks also for sharing some Idaho with your readers. Shoshone Falls is spectacular. Never get tired of looking at that beautiful area when I am down Twin Falls way. Have you seen Upper Mesa Falls area on Henrys Fork?
ReplyDeleteDustin ~ Love the "Box"!
ReplyDeleteMel ~ I visited the Mesa Falls last summer for the first time...gee, I am starting to feel like the ambassador for Idaho...there will be a post on that area also... :)
Box canyon was my favorite as well. Also I fished a lot the buffalo river right by ponds. Great stuff. Also loved hitting the southfork of the snake near idaho falls.
