How Far Will This Road Be Traveled?

I am a traveler...I love to find new places to fish.  So, naturally, the gas prices are going to start putting a crimp in my plans for this summer.  How high is high?  I don't know if I can answer that anymore...It might be time to curtail some of my adventures this year though...I know that I will have to be more choosy on which out of state trips I take for sure.  More local waters and maybe not as often.  No, I couldn't go less often.  Hmmm...time to get out the household budget book and see what else can be trimmed a little...yep, that's it.  : )  And the time is NOW to save up for the Colorado OBN get-together in August!

Yeah, not quite accurate...

Yeah, more like it!

I'm sure we all have had fathers and grandfathers with this story...

  1. I know exactly what you mean. Last fall I ran to Cumberland river just about every weekend after trout. It's only 150 miles but it adds up. Especially when there is so much prime smallie water in my bad yard...literally! I still want to do some trips though. That August get-together is looking pretty awesome. Have to start saving now!!

  2. This is why you buddy up on those trip, the guys I go with are more than generous when it comes to chipping in on the fuel. 20 bucks a person is a lot better than 90. Plus you make the memories with friends that last forever.

  3. Yep. The price of fuel is what's going to keep me from being at the OBN thing. Well, that and not having a "day job" right now. But hey, that will make OBN Annual Whatever #2 that much sweeter for me! Hey....is there something different about this blog? You change the background? Something...hmmm...

  5. River Damsel....

A great blog you have here I will following you closely. As for travelling I guess I am lucky having my local beck just a mile from the door...

  6. I live a 2 minute walk down a hill to the Fox River, yet I always drive a few miles up stream to fish. This years goal is to wade at least 10 miles of the river right at my feet. I've been meaning to do it for years.

  7. I know the feeling. I drove a total of 200 miles yesterday to check out some new water. Most of the time, though, it ends up being worth it!

  8. California is hovering right around $4.00 per gallon. I can say it will hinder my fishing, but it won't. Being old, like I am, the cheapest I can remember gas is 25 cents a gallon, way back in the mid-1960's.

  9. What Shoreman said. 25 cent gas and 19 cent cigarettes. Pull in to a station and say "Give me a dollars worth." There will be a lot less "hot rodding" the boat this year for sure.

  10. Andy ~ Thanks for stopping by...you are one of the lucky ones that can go fish in a skip and a jump!

Ken ~ I will go 5 mi with ya! 10...hmmm

Mark ~ Yes, most of us will make a few budget cuts elsewhere, but still find a way to fish!!

WDSTK3 ~ Howard ~ You are from one of my favorite places...I love the Spokane area...
Yes, I think that we can remember if not second hand, to the "good ol' days" when gas was under a $1 a gal...Crazy!

  11. I think those of us with F.P.D. will still find a way to fish. Sitting at home wishing you were fishing is not an option.

  12. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah...it was 25 cents a gal. when I was in high school. My trips are local unless the boss is with me. Then it's cabins, overnight stays, nice restaurants and we hire someone to fish for us while we lounge on the banks sipping wine.
